Music has three principal (Let’s call them) “sections”. They are:

  • Melody
  • Harmony
  • Rhythm
  • Each one of them has it’s own importance in music. The importance of rhythm section is helping the listener to find the beat in time. The drums are clearly a rhythm instrument, so it helps to keep the listener aware of where the beats are.
  • In particular, drums also can help to emphasize changes in parts of a song. For example: when the verse is over and is going to start the chorus, the drums might do some fill to let you know something else is coming up. Drums also give parts some levels of intensity. For example: if the song has a soft/mellow verse and a heavy chorus, drums can change some sounds to help create that sensation, it could use a different cymbal between both parts.
